Archive or mute Gmail messages

If you want to clean up your inbox without deleting your emails, you can archive or mute them. Your emails are moved to a label called "All Mail." When you archive a message : The message will come back to your inbox when someone replies to it. When you mute a message : Any replies stay out of your inbox. You can search for the conversation if you want to find it again. COMPUTER   Archive an email On your computer, open  Gmail . Open the message or check the box to the left of it. To archive multiple emails, check the box next to all emails you want to archive. Near the top of the page, click Archive . Tip:  If  keyboard shortcuts  are turned on, you can also press  e  to archive an email you're looking at. Find or move messages you archived Messages you archived aren't deleted, and you can still find them any time. Star emails in Gmail

When you star emails in Gmail, you mark them as important. This helps you remember to look at them later.  COMPUTER   Star an email On your computer, open  Gmail . From your inbox, go to the left of the message, then click Star . If the message is open, click  More  >  Add Star . If you have multiple stars, keep clicking the star icon until you see the one you want to use. Search for your starred emails On your computer, open  Gmail . On the left side of the page, click  Starred . You may need to click  More  first. You can also use shortcuts to find starred messages by searching  is:starred  or  has:  with the star's name, like  has:yellow-star . Add more star options You can add stars of different colors, or other icons. On your computer, open  Gmail . In the top right, click Settings . Click  Settings . Scroll down to the "Stars" section. Mark messages as read or unread

If you want to remember to read a message later, you can mark it as unread. You can also mark messages as read without opening them. COMPUTER   Mark as unread On your computer, open  Gmail . Open the message. (If you want to stay in your inbox, check the box next to the message). At the top, click  More    Mark as unread . Mark as read On your computer, open  Gmail . Check the boxes next to the messages you want to mark. At the top, click  More    Mark as read . Mark all messages as read On your computer, open  Gmail . In the top left, click the Down arrow    All . At the top, click  More    Mark as read .

Open & download attachments in Gmail

When you get an email with attachments, you can download a copy of the attachment to your device. COMPUTER   Downloading options Download an attachment to your computer Open  Gmail . Open an email message. Hover your mouse over the thumbnail, then click Download . Your browser saves attachments you've downloaded in a download folder. Check your browser’s settings to see where to find your downloads. If you use Google Chrome, learn about  downloading a file on Chrome . Download to Google Drive Note:  Some attachments can be seen or shared, but not saved to Google Drive. Open  Gmail . Open an email message. Print Gmail messages

You can print individual messages or all messages inside a conversation. Note:  Make sure you've connected your printer using  Cloud Print  or  AirPrint . COMPUTER   Print a single email If there are multiple emails within the same conversation, you can print just one of those emails. On your computer, open  Gmail . Open the email you want to print. In the top right of the email, click the Down arrow     Print . Print an email with replies If there are multiple emails within the same conversation, you can print all those emails together. On your computer, open  Gmail . Open the conversation you want to print. In the top right, click Print all.

Delete or recover deleted Gmail messages

When you delete a message, it stays in your Trash for 30 days. After that time, it will be permanently deleted from your account and can't be recovered. Note:  If the following steps don't work, you're probably using the old version of Contacts. Go to  edit or delete contacts in old Contacts . Edit a contact Go to  Google Contacts . Click a contact's name. In the top right corner, click Edit . Edit the information. Click  Save . Note:  You can't change details that automatically come from: Your contact's Google profile Your contact’s work, school, or organization Google Maps, if your contact is a business Delete a contact Go to  Google Contacts .
