Group emails into conversations

You can choose whether replies to emails are grouped in conversations, or if each email shows up in your inbox separately.  COMPUTER   Choose your conversation settings When people reply to an email, Gmail groups responses together in conversations with the newest email on the bottom. A conversation breaks off into a new conversation if the subject line changes or the conversation gets to more than 100 emails. Open  Gmail . In the top right, click Settings. Click  Settings . Scroll down to the "Conversation View" section. Select Conversation view on (messages will be grouped) or Conversation view off (messages won't be grouped). At the bottom of the page, click  Save Changes .

Split your emails using Gmail priority inbox

When you choose the "priority inbox" setting, your emails are automatically split into three sections: important and unread, starred, and everything else.   COMPUTER   Turn on priority inbox Open  Gmail . To configure your inbox, go to the top right, then click Settings  >   Settings . Click the  Inbox  tab. In the "Inbox type" section, select  Priority Inbox . Choose other inbox settings, like which sections you want, and if you want to see importance markers or not. At the bottom of the page, click  Save Changes . Organize your Gmail inbox using labels

You can organize your emails by setting up labels. Labels work like folders, but you can add more than one label to a message. At the top, click Label  Click the box next to each label you want to add, or type a new label. Tip:  To add a label to multiple messages, select those messages in your inbox, then click Label . Create rules to filter your emails

You can manage your incoming mail using Gmail’s filters to send email to a label, or archive, delete, star, or automatically forward your mail.  Create a filter Open  Gmail . In the search box at the top, click the Down arrow . Enter your search criteria. If you want to check that your search worked correctly, see what emails show up by clicking Search.   At the bottom of the search window, click  Create filter with this search .  Choose what you’d like the filter to do. Click  Create filter . Note:  When you create a filter to forward messages, only new messages will be affected. ​Additionally, when someone replies to a message you've filtered, the reply will only be filtered if it meets the same search criteria.  Use a particular message to create a filter Open  Gmail . Mark or unmark Spam in Gmail

You can mark or unmark emails as spam. Gmail also automatically identifies spam and other suspicious emails and sends them to Spam. COMPUTER   Mark or unmark emails as spam Mark emails as spam The more you report spam, the better Gmail gets at automatically marking similar messages as spam. Make sure you've  downloaded the Gmail app . On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gmail app . Tap the sender's profile image next to the message you want to mark as spam. In the top right, tap More    Report spam . Delete the emails in Spam Make sure you've  downloaded the Gmail app . On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gmail app . In the top left, tap Menu   >  Spam . Archive or mute Gmail messages

If you want to clean up your inbox without deleting your emails, you can archive or mute them. Your emails are moved to a label called "All Mail." When you archive a message : The message will come back to your inbox when someone replies to it. When you mute a message : Any replies stay out of your inbox. You can search for the conversation if you want to find it again. COMPUTER   Archive an email On your computer, open  Gmail . Open the message or check the box to the left of it. To archive multiple emails, check the box next to all emails you want to archive. Near the top of the page, click Archive . Tip:  If  keyboard shortcuts  are turned on, you can also press  e  to archive an email you're looking at. Star emails in Gmail

When you star emails in Gmail, you mark them as important. This helps you remember to look at them later.  COMPUTER   Star an email On your computer, open  Gmail . From your inbox, go to the left of the message, then click Star . If the message is open, click  More  >  Add Star . If you have multiple stars, keep clicking the star icon until you see the one you want to use. Search for your starred emails On your computer, open  Gmail . On the left side of the page, click  Starred . You may need to click  More  first. You can also use shortcuts to find starred messages by searching  is:starred  or  has:  with the star's name, like  has:yellow-star . Add more star options You can add stars of different colors, or other icons. On your computer, open  Gmail . In the top right, click Settings . Click  Settings . Scroll down to the "Stars" section.
